Steak and Co.

Quality of food

Ordered the 400g Black Angus and it was really good. Cooked medium as I had asked and very soft. My partner had the ribeye which was also good but not my style.

Service
I was disappointed with the service. Guests want a smile from their waiters, a little bit of humour, an ice-breaker. Well, at least that is me..The waiters/ waitresses were cold. No smile and very tight. They also screwed up my partner's order. She ordered a Fillet but they brought her a ribeye Steak. When we told the waiter about it, he went back, brought his order sheet and said.."yes, that is a Fillet Ribeye". We are very easy people but on second thought we should have stood our ground. I was annoyed because they didn't even ask if everything is OK, or if there is a problem.

Atmosphere
Very "cold" restaurant. Nothing else to say

Occhio Lounge & Sushi bar

Our dinner at Occhio on a Saturday night was such a disappointment which makes me don't know where to begin from...So I will just start from the more positives.

Service
The waitress was polite and smiley and she spoke both English and Greek which is always a good thing. Our food came relatively quick..about 20 minutes. No mistakes made in the order. My only disappointment with the service is when I ordered a filter coffee to another waitress towards the end of the night and she looked really confused about it. I wasn't sure if she was speaking Greek or English so I said it in two languages two times each and I asked her if she understood. I never got my coffee..

Prices
I believe the least expensive items in the menu are salads which range in the 12-15 Euro range. Pastas are about 14-15 Euros and the main meals range from 13 to 35 Euro. A generally expensive restaurant for the quality of food it offers.

Quality
I ordered the chicken souvlaki with wild rice and salad and my partner ordered a chicken fillet with grilled vegetables and a jacket potato.
My chicken souvlaki was really dry that it was really hard to eat. I had to put a lot of salt on it and dip it in the salad sauce in order to be able to eat. It came with two small pieces of pita but not any other sauce.
The wild rice mentioned in the menu was regular white rice and the quantity was minimal..two full big spoons at the most.
My partner's chicken fillet was really dry. Just imagine throwing a piece of chicken on the grill. It was really hard to eat..and she likes dry food. The jacket potato was big but not cooked well and the vegetables were OK.
We also ordered two bottles of white wine. The wine was the right one but none of the two bottles was as chilled as a white wine would require. Pretty disappointing especially when you take that first sip in your mouth.

Atmosphere
The atmosphere is nice. It is a really beautiful venue. Loud music started at 11 but by that time we were done with the food and were ready for some dancing. The club and the music were really good.

Overall
I think the above review sums up my feelings. It would take a lot of effort to convince me to eat there again unless I am persuaded that things have changed...

Starz

Starz is situated in Nicosia - Makedonitissa area on the Apollonio Hospital street.

I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. I had read comments before about it, but I didn't pay much attention until I decided to try it last Thursday.

If you have ever been to the U.S then this is what you should expect. Good, caring service and huge portions. They also have a large list of wines ranging from inexpensive Cypriot wines to extremely expensive rare wines. We chose a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile which we found to be very good.

For a starter we got the Spinach Artichoke dip in order to remember the U.S days. I am still convinced that with the portion of food you get at the place, the starter is not a necessity. Nevertheless as true Cypriot I had to get my starter and finish it too.

For my main course I ordered the Flap steak which was priced at 32 Euro. It comes with a selection of soup or salad, vegetables and potatoes.
The salad came before our dinner and it was good. There was a little too much dressing on it, but it is better than the little too less dressing you get at other restaurants. But really who cares when the steak was to die for?

Cooked to perfection and to order (medium rare) it was melting in my mouth. I thought I was in heaven eating the steak. Unfortunately I didn't have any room in my belly to try any of the desserts. Especially the lava cake looked really good. But it is a lesson for next time to not get the appetizer.

I would highly recommend this restaurant even though it might be a little pricey. We paid 95 Euro for an appetizer, two steaks and a bottle of wine which was 28 Euro.

Amigos

On a rainy Thursday night, after a cocktail reception we had, my partner and I decided to try the Mexican restaurant Amigos, which is located inside Mondo café in Nicosia.

Quality of food:
Not surprising that another “Mexican” restaurant does not meet my expectations. My burrito was not tasty enough and the presentation of the plate found me astonished with a Greek salad accompanying my buritto!!!
On the positive side, they brought us complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning and some more when we asked them to.

Service:
The hostess was smiley and polite. What bothered me is that I am a Greek native speaker and my partner is an English native speaker and we couldn’t really talk to the waitress, who spoke some Greek and some English. This is very annoying, since it took us about 2 minutes to help her understand that we wanted the Queso cheese as a starter.

Atmosphere:
The atmosphere is OK. It is decorated to look like a Mexican restaurant but the fact that it is connected to the café ruins the attempt a bit, since you have a full view of the café people. On the plus side, was the fact that the restaurant was empty, so it was quite and smokeless for us.

Prices:
Expensive. I am sorry but if I have to pay 8 Euro for a plate of quacamole then that is expensive. So were the burritos, so were the fajitas. To be fair however, this is not at Amigos but pretty much at any Mexican restaurant in Cyprus.

146 Music Tavern

This Cypriot tavern with live music is located in the SOPAZ area in Nicosia.

Quality of food:
The food is good. There was nothing that differentiates it from other taverns regarding food.

Service:
Going into such a place you are definitely not looking for service. It was good however. The lady was very friendly and polite.

Atmosphere:
If you like quality Greek live music then this is your place. Personally I am not a big fan, but you can easily get carried away when in such a place.

Prices:
The price per person for meze was about 20 Euro which is very reasonable. We were also charged 60 Euro for a ½ bottle of Jack Daniels, 40 Euro for 2 bottles of local white wine and 17 Euro for a 1/8 bottle of zivania. I found those prices a little high, but I guess you are paying for the music when you are there.

Aztecas Mexican restaurant Nicosia

Aztecas is a new Mexican restaurant located at the end of Ledras in Nicosia:

Quality of food: I had the Beef fajitas which I found to be excellent. The quantity was enough (even for me) and the beef was very tasty. Accompanied with pico de gallo, cheese, quacamole and hot sauce.

My partner had a beef buritto which I tried but did not like at all. I was actually disappointed because I was thinking of ordering that. Glad I went with the fajitas.

We also had the Queso cheese for starter. Having been in authentic Mexican restaurants before, I have to say that this is nothing close to Queso cheese.

Service: The service was really good. The waiters/ waitresses were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, since they were not many customers at the restaurant at the time, I felt that they were watching and talking about us all the time. Left me with a bad impression.

Value for money: Like any other Mexican restaurant in Cyprus, this one is expensive too. 37 Euros for the Queso cheese, 2 meals and one bottle of water is too much! Also, in a lot of Mexican restaurants you get complimentary tortilla chips at the beginning. Not here...
We did however get a complimentary strawberry margharita which was really good.

Atmosphere: Nice decoration and atmosphere in the restaurant

Brewery Nicosia

I have been there quite a few times for both drinks and food.

Quality of food: The food is good but not excellent. I have had the Brewery Platter (sausages, kebabs etc), the pork chop and the western burger. They were tasty but not something that you cannot find anywhere else.

Service: Brewery has excellent service. The waiters/ waitresses are usually smiley and ready to help. Never had any problem whenever I went there.

Atmosphere: I like the atmosphere and the decor in the pub.

Value for money: The prices are a little bit more expensive than normal. For example Petritis wine is sold for 22 Euro where everywhere else it is about 15-17 Euro. Prices for some meals are expensive and for some others cheaper. In general though, I would say it is an expensive pub.

Tip: Try the wheat beer of Brewery

In general, I would recommend this place for a relaxing drinking night
